What is Mochi Isle? The short version.

Mochi Isle is a browser learning game for children aged 5 to high school. Children answer maths, English, science and humanities questions and learn moves to turn a grey island green, patch by patch; levels follow New Zealand school years, and parents get a learning report every Sunday. The main island and the daily lesson are free, with nothing to download.

What it is
A learning game that runs in the browser — nothing to download. Tablets and computers both work; on an iPad you can add it to the Home Screen.
Who it’s for
Children from age 5 to high school. A parent signs up with an email; children never need an account. Up to 6 children per family, each with their own save and level.
What children learn
Maths, English, science and humanities, plus a piece of real geography or science on each of twelve islands and two sets (sky and living things) found on every island — 109 nature cards in all. See the 109 cards →
Levels
A quick placement on the first visit. Each subject has its own ladder: three Starter levels (about ages 5–9), then eight rungs from about New Zealand Year 7 up to NZ Scholarship. Rungs only go up; when things get hard, a few review questions appear quietly.
How it works
The island starts out grey. Children take lessons from island spirits, answer questions, learn moves, and use those moves to turn the island green patch by patch — the questions are the gameplay, not a ticket to it. The island school is one lesson a day, ten questions.
For parents
A learning report every Sunday at 7 pm New Zealand time: days learned, questions answered, the rung in each subject and how close the next step is — and one sentence of advice.
Safety and privacy
No ads, and no prices or upselling on the child’s screen. Playing together uses game-made nicknames, preset emotes and phrases only — no typing. We never collect a child’s real name, photo, location or contact details.
Languages
The interface switches between Chinese and English at any time. Starter questions come in both; from Rung 1 up, questions are in English.
Cost
The main island, the question bank, placement, the daily lesson and the weekly report are free. More islands, and the actual missed questions in the report, come with a family membership. Membership prices →
Made in
New Zealand.
Former name
Until November 2026 the game was called Greenwake Isle, at greenwakeisle.com; the old address redirects here.

Parents ask

How is Mochi Isle different from other learning games?

Many learning games are “questions first, then a reward”, and children soon learn that the questions are just a ticket — tap faster, right or wrong. Mochi Isle turns that around: right answers teach the moves, and the moves are what wake the island. The questions are the game itself; there is no “ten questions, then five minutes of play”.

Do I need to sit with my child the whole time?

No. It helps to sit with your child for the quick placement on the first visit; after that they can play on their own. “School first” is on by default, and the Sunday report tells you how far they got each week.

Can more than one child use it?

Yes. Up to 6 children per family, each with their own save and their own level, reported separately each week.

Can my child play with friends?

Yes, children can visit a friend’s island. They only see game-made nicknames and preset emotes and phrases — no typing — and multiplayer can be switched off in the Parent zone.

What are the twelve islands about?

Each island is one piece of real science: tides, altitude and temperature, the rain shadow, volcanoes, rainforest layers, weather, coral and the ocean, minerals and magnets, wetlands, auroras and polar days, bamboo and terraces. All 109 nature cards can be read on the Twelve islands page.

Sit in on one lesson tonight.

The first visit starts with a quick placement, then it’s one lesson a day. The main island is free, right in the browser.
